Dear Parent/Guardian

7-Day Leave of Absence (LOA) for Students Returning from H1N1 Affected Countries and School’s Precautionary Measures for Week 1 Term 3

1. As part of the measures to reduce the risk of Influenza A (H1N1) among students when school reopens on 29 June, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will issue Leave of Absence (LOA) to all school staff and students returning from affected countries on and after 22 Jun, so that they do not attend school activities for seven calendar days upon their return to Singapore. This will reduce the risk of H1N1 spreading within the school community and in Singapore when school reopens. Junior High students on LOA may be given home-based learning packages, depending on their duration of absence and the type of learning activities missed. Alternatively, these students can also be helped by their teachers to catch up on school work in other ways. Senior High students on LOA will sit for their common tests after their return to school.

2. In addition to LOA for affected students, we will also implement other precautionary measures. We will set up stations at our school gate to screen students and staff when they come to school. We will advise those who have returned from an affected country on or after 22 Jun, but have somehow missed the earlier notification that they are on LOA and should go home. Those who are unwell will also be asked to go home. We will also institute twice-daily temperature taking, and closely monitor our students. In addition, school assemblies will be suspended and CCAs scaled down during the first week after school reopens in order to minimize congregation of school staff and students. There will also be tighter school security. All visitors will be screened for travel history and temperature taking before they can enter our school.

3. The additional measures are part of the precautionary measures that our school has already implemented to prevent the spread of the virus among our staff and students. We will continue to maintain cleanliness of our school premises, remind students of the importance of personal hygiene and monitor students for signs that they may be unwell.

4. We seek your cooperation and understanding in the school’s efforts to implement these measures. Let us work together to keep our schools open, and safeguard the health of our students. In the event that your child registers a fever during his/her daily temperature check, we seek your understanding to bring him/her home to rest. Please also encourage your child to practice good hygiene at home. With your support, we hope that every child can develop such good habits that will last them through life.

Submission of Travel Declaration Form

5. Before the close of Term 2, the school has obtained your child’s travel plans for the June holidays. However, as the travel plans might have changed, all parents are required to re-submit the travel declaration form which is attached separately in the email, when school re-opens.

6. Please complete the form and submit it to the school by one of the following methods:

(i) If your child has not been to any of the affected countries, or has returned from affected countries before 22 Jun and is well, please submit the form by hand through your child when he/she returns to school on Mon 29 Jun; or

(ii) If your child is returning/ has returned from affected countries on and after 22 Jun, please submit the declaration form to the school by email (traveldeclare@dhs.sg) or fax (63442316).

7. The Influenza A (H1N1) affected countries are those considered by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as having community spread and/or are known to have exported cases. As of 23 Jun, these countries are Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States of America. Parents are advised to refer to the MOH website (http://www.moh.gov.sg) for latest updates.

School’s Precautionary Measures for Week 1 Term 3

8. Previously, all Junior High students were informed to report to school by 2.00pm on 29 Jun (Monday) for the Asian Youth Game’s (AYG) Torch Relay Celebration. In view of the current H1N1 situation and the need to minimize congregation, the school has decided to limit the participants of this AYG event to just staff and some student representatives. Thus, Junior High students are not required to attend the event, unless they are performing for the event or selected to participate.

9. Given the above change and the need to carry out a series of precautionary measures before lessons can commence, all students (both Junior High and Senior High) are required to report to school on 29 Jun (Monday) by 8.00am, instead of the usual 9am. To minimize congregation, flag-raising ceremony will be conducted in the classrooms and not the parade square. All students are reminded to bring along their working ODTs to school every day until further notice.

10. For Senior High students, Common Tests will be held as scheduled. However, all common tests during the first week of Term 3 will now be conducted in the classrooms to minimize congregation. For Junior High students, normal lessons will resume on the first day of Term 3. We will inform them of the timetable for that day towards the end of this week.

11. Please note that for the first week of Term 3, only the gates at Tanjong Rhu Road will be opened for vehicular and human traffic. The gates at the Kampong Arang Road will NOT be opened, even to pedestrians. Everyone is to enter the school compound by the Tanjong Rhu gates. This is to enable our staff to ensure that everyone who enters the school compound can be properly screened and where necessary, isolated promptly from the rest of the school community. This may cause some inconveniences to traffic but we would like to seek your understanding on this matter.

12. Given the fluid H1N1 situation, the school may send out further notifications to our students via the school’s Google mail system. All students are reminded to check their Google mail accounts daily for such updates until the school re-opens.

13. Our students’ safety is of utmost concern to us. MOE is in close consultation with MOH and will activate other appropriate measures should there be a need to. 2008年8月20日，是我生命中一个极不寻常的日子。我去国大医院预约专家门诊做检查，检查的结果让我和我的家人震惊。往日平静的生活被改变了，突如其来的打击使我和我的家人陷入了悲痛之中。看着妈妈伤心地流泪，我只能强忍住泪水来安慰她：我会坚强，我会好起来的!

随着一系列的检查和治疗，疾病带来的痛苦与日俱增。治疗产生的副作用让我难受、呕吐，没胃口，全身无力。更可怕的是口腔溃疡，无法吞咽各种食物。体质变得越来越差，伤口的疼痛也折磨得我苦不堪言。每一天都仿佛是在黑暗里行走，漫长而无助。当我无奈地躺在病床上时，脑海里就会浮想联翩：想以前平常的读书生活，现在看来是多么的幸福和快乐！上课，打球，下棋，与同学学习讨论......。如今，却变成了一种奢侈！往日的生活历历在目，回忆成了我些许的快乐和安慰，而今却一下子掉进了深渊！无助而孤独，恐惧且不安。病魔无情，人间有爱。是老师关心和探望，是同学们的一句句真诚问候与支持，给了我信心和勇气，让我渐渐改变了心情，变得乐观，勇于正视现实，不再逃避，以积极的心态去面对一切挑战！

I bet none of you expected or thought that Class Cleanliness would be held today. Guess what? We got 2/6. The total marks is 6 because cupboards are involved too. We should really buck up our cleanliness and follow the duty roster! :D We know you have CCAs and stuff but just do your part for the class. This is going to be the last year we will be together in this classroom,use this classroom and bond as a class in this classroom. So, lets aim for full marks next time :D Wenxi warned you people today that there would be class cleanliness but no action was taken D: So, lets JIAYOU ok :D Even if you're not on the duty roster, help out by keeping your own table free of eraser dust and blah. And push in your chairs too.

I don't know if this post will make things better or worse, just that I think I know why that MSN convo took place after reading a close friend's blog. If I'm not wrong 2I is pissed with us for copying their class blogskin and the CNY dinner thing? The blogskin is edited and i only changed the bg, put up photos and did some editing here n there. I don't know which part is copied, is it the animated photo part? I only remember your ex-blogskin had some animated photo slideshow or something. Other than that I am quite sure I didn't copy anything, I didn't mean to anw. I didn't choose to edit this skin as such after lookin at 2I's blogskin, its up to you all 2 believe. Then the CNY dinner thing, we didn't copy it from you cos sabbie thought of it very early, I won't put it as "thought of it earlier than you all" cos I don't really know if that's the case. Its ok to have more than 1 class having a CNY dinner right? At least we are ok with it. Hope this "quarrel" will stop and we 2 classes will patch up, cos we are very unhappy about the insults & sarcasm in the msn convo.

Jia Ying & I were thinking, we should have a Class Song and maybe a Class Dance too.

If it succeeds, Sabbie shall be our dance choreographer :D

And we were thinking of using 黑糖秀, the theme song for Brown Sugar Macchiato. It has boy & girl parts and it's not those lovey lovey duets so I think it's quite suitable.

Sabbie suggested a Class Chalet during the March Holidays, either 2D1N or 3D2N. You all decide, the first night will be free (thanks to her mum :D) and the 2nd night will be $50. So it's very affordable. It'll be at COASTA SANDS, the place we had for LEVEL CAMP 08. Remember the rooms! There'll only be 1 room though but it'll be okay, since we won't sleep at night so don't worry about Boys & Girls staying together.

And I don't think the whole class will be going, so the space should be enough. But I'm not saying not everybody can go, ALL ARE WELCOME AS LONG PART OF JENO :D

Sooo, Sabbie's getting impatient - Quick reply about it, vote whether you want it or not, vote 2D1N or 3D2N. Inform her in school OR tag at tagboard.

After selling our homemade keychains, homemade lanterns and stuff, and other miscellaneous items, we've earned a total of $286.10!But, out of our earnings, 40dollars would have to be given back to us for the budget. And the $16.10 is made up of coins, so we'll be giving that back to Yongxin and his momma. So,in conclusion, we earned $230 :DDD CLAPCLAPCLAP.

Lets thank Yongxin and his momma,Gideon and his momma,Jiaying and her momma, Enci,Grace,Yajun,Mildred, Sabrina Ho,Amelia,Sherlyn and ME :D And for Class Deco, our dear Chairman has put in great effort into it :D Let's thank everyone for the participation in this:D Don't you guys think that we've sort of bonded in this? Like during recess today, the guys were there selling stuff without the girls :D On our Wednesday after school thing, a lot of us came to help out and sell. LETS BOND SOMEMORE since this is our last year together. We should cherish it :DDDD Now, we're onto another matter.

Total defence day: Recycled Materials, Fashion Show.

Rules and Regulations:
1. You will have to come up with a costume made up of recycled materials and stuff.
2. You will have to choose a representative from your class to model the class's creation.
3. The representative will need to go for a compulsory rehearsal in the school hall (stage) at 3.30pm on : 2nd Feb (Yr 1 & 2)
4. The fashion show will be held on Total Defence Day ( 18th Feb)

There will only be one costume per class, either a female or male model :D Accessories, Make up and other items related to the design can be used. However, marks will only be given to self-made accessories/made of recycled stuff. We will use an unwanted shirt+ pants/skirt for the base. Stitch,Sew or Staple(alliteration) onto the base and TADAA! :D

Here is some important news for Chinese :D I've asked Mr Yeo what kind of notebooks we need to prepare for Chinese. He replied that a notebook is needed but for personal preferences. I think we should prepare one though. 听写 will be done on 活页纸. Whats 活页纸? LOL.

Oh and we have many ideas for the Yi Mai Hui thing. Please bring along baskets tomorrow if you have :DD

Oh yes. My momma wants to book a chalet ( the one we had at level camp) for my friends which I think is the class.LOL! Hey there :D wenxi here. Just to inform you people, we'll be collecting class funds the next two days (Tuesday & Wednesday) so everyone bring along $3, we need it to pay back Songshan, who forked out $90 last year to pay for our 成语/谚语/俗语/惯用语/歇后语/四字语 books, and also for some admin matters (if there is) in future.
Just a reminder, remember to memorise your 40成语/50谚语/60俗语 cause we'll most probably be having the chinese test tomorrow.
Soooo,

On a more serious note,
Apparently, we have to start decorating the classroom for the CNY Competition and Flea Market stuff which adds in to our Class League. So, those of you who aren't sure which segment you guys are in charge of, please check the Yellow Paper in front of the class. Most of you would be doing the Flea Market Selling thing. Only a few who actually signed up would be doing Class Decoration and stuff.

I think the deadline is nearing soon. So we better start everything and we should get our elections done as fast as possible since we really need a Chairperson to hold things together.

That's about it. Oh and do learn all your Chengyus and Suyus and Yanyus by the next Chinese lesson which is Tuesday or Thursday since MrYeo will give us the test already. And also study your math for the test on your holiday assignment. Lastly, who's collecting the consent form and money and stuff we've been holding on to? See. This is what happens when we drag the election.
